Christ Lutheran Church
- Christ Lutheran Church is a member congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, a mainline Protestant denomination with about 10,000 congregations in the United States and the Bahamas. With over 4 million members, the ELCA strives to proclaim the Gospel under the motto, “God’s Work, Our Hands.” Christ Lutheran Church belongs to the Florida-Bahamas Synod (district), one of 65 synods overseen by synodical bishops under the authority of the Presiding Bishop in Chicago, Illinois. The ELCA supports 29 colleges and 8 seminaries and is one of 120 Lutheran denominations affiliated with Lutheran World Federation headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland. Domestic outreach ministry is accomplished through agencies of the ELCA and global ministry is supported through Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service and Lutheran World Relief.
- Lutherans believe that all people are saved by God’s grace announced by God’s son, Jesus, who bestows God’s mercy and forgiveness through Word and Sacrament. The sacrament of baptism marks the baptized as one named by God and the sacrament of holy communion bestows continual faith and the power of love through the real spiritual presence of the resurrected Christ. The only authority for Christian teaching is found in the Bible, life and salvation is received by God’s grace, and the only requirement for inclusion in God’s Kingdom is faith and trust in the promises of God in Christ. We teach that in Christ there is no longer a distinction between slave and free, Jew and Gentile, and male and female (Galatians 3: 28). All persons are welcomed to the community of faith for nurture and fellowship.
